Indicating On A Bike.

Rm 17 had to make a video about road safety. I choose to do an animation about indicting because when you come to a stop it is very important to know how to indicate to the cars and the people who are crossing the road.

Biking

Bike safety
Do you ever think about doing a safety check? Well, you should because if you are on the road and your brakes don’t work then you could hurt a pedestrian crossing the road. Maybe your tire might fall off or something even worse. In this explanation there will be four paragraphs. They are a description to help if something happens to the bike. What clothing is suitable to wear. How to check the bike before going on the road and safety rules to help when you are on the road.

Having a description about your bike can be very useful so when it gets stolen or something happens to it you will have the information about the bike. One of the most important thing is the ID number. This is so if the bike gets stolen you can give the number to the police .You can find the ID number on the bottom of your bike. It will ether be engraved into the bike or it will be a little sticker. It will also help if you have kept track of what colour, size and brand the bike was for the police so when they go and try and find the bike they know what they are  looking for. You should be able to tell if you have brought a bike that has been stolen because they would have tried to rub out the ID number.

When you go for a bike ride you don’t normally see people in tracksuit pants and flip flops do you? No, you don’t because you they get too hot and their feet get sore. So it is important to have the right clothing and footwear for the right track or route that you are taking. Sneakers are the best shoes to wear but you can also wear canvas shoes. As long as they are stable and comfortable to wear. Biking shorts are one of the most recommended pants to wear. If you don’t own biking shorts then just use normal shorts. There is no huge difference. Any T-Shirt is fine as long as it is not long sleeve. Maybe even try a sports top. They are very helpful because they have little holes to help you skin breathe.

Checking your bike on a regular basis is a good idea. To make sure that there is no rust on the frame and the brakes are functioning probably. There are so many things that need to be checked on your bike. Try checking if you have a rear reflector so for when cars are coming behind you or beside you at night time they will be able to see that you are there so they won’t hit you. There are lots of different coloured reflectors that you can have but the best one is an orange one. If you have a white reflector they might go to turn into a driveway and not notice that you are there. Then you could get badly injured maybe even die. Just before you go on the road you need to check that your tires are fully pumped up. Don’t pump them up to much because then they might pop and then you can’t go on your blood pumping bike ride.

Are you aware about all the safety rules on the road?. If you don’t then you mustn’t go on the road because it is extremely dangerous. When you come to a stop
you need to indicate. You do this so when there are cars behind you so they know what you are about to do. What ever way you are turning you hold out that arm.  At all times when you are on your bike you need to be wearing a helmet even if you are biking up and down your driveway or just going on the street. If you fall and  you are not wearing a helmet you can get badly injured. Another good thing to wear is a protective jacket (Fluorescence coloured). When you are on the road you need to be persistent. So when you go pass some cars that are parked on the street and they are trying to leave you will give way to them. Also you need to be aware about what is happening around you. If you pass a driveway you need to check down the driveway to see if a car is coming out. If there is another person on there bike and they are in front of you make sure that you are aware of what they are doing.

Well with a bit of luck now you should check your bike more often than you already do. Make sure that when you are on the road that you follow all the safety rules and always wear a helmet. Do not be silly on the road because you can get badly injured maybe even DIE. Have fun and stay safe.

Balancing Act Experiment

Balancing Act Experiment
Have you ever seen a hairdryer holding up a ping pong ball in the air? Well if you haven’t then you should try this experiment. Room 17 did this experiment and we had to have a hypothesis to see what would happen. Some said that it would float and some said that it would fall off.

Supplies needed:
  • A Hair Dryer
  • 2 or 3 Ping Pong Balls

How we did it:
All you have to do is get your ping pong ball and place it on the part that blows out hot air. Now wait and watch the ping pong ball. You may want to add more ping pong balls. Then what will happen? Why don’t you try it out.

How this works:
This experiment worked because the force from the air that is blowing towards the ceiling and the gravity that is holding it down. Then they meet in the middle causing the ping pong ball to stop and stay where it is.

Reflection For This Year

Over the last three terms I have learnt lots of new skills and strategies. Not just in maths and writing but in art and reading. I must say that this year one of favourite subjects has been writing. I have learnt to go back and read the sentence that I have just written and make sure that it make sense. I feel that I have improved in my writing in lots of different ways. Like not making my paragraphs so long because it isn’t a competition. I am mostly proud of all my stories although sometimes I think that I can make them more interesting so the reader is hooked in. This year I have enjoyed every part of writing.

Reading is also one of my favourite subjects for this year. I have learnt to take in what I am reading because when people come and ask me questions I will know the answers. I think that I have improved in my reading by just taking my time and not missing words so I can be the first finished. I am very proud of what leave I am on for my reading because all my effort that I have done has paid off. I really enjoyed reading and answering questions

Part 2 Of Air

Heating Air
What happens when air expands? On Monday 18th of October room 17 tried an experiment with air. We had to see what would happen when you put a bottle in hot water with a balloon covering the opening. In this report/story there will be 4 different paragraphs. The first one is about what you need for this experiment to work. Number two is about how the bottle needs to be immerse in the water. Number three is observation. Number four is about the particles.

To make this experiment work you will need two plastic bottles, two balloons, long tongs (so you don't burn yourself with the hot water) and two containers one filled with hot water and the other one filled with cold water. The reason you need two different containers with hot water and cold water is because if they were the same there would be no difference.

You have to put the bottle completely under the water (This is called immerse) so the experiment will work. If the experiment doesn't work that will probably be why. Immersing is a very crucial part of this experiment. At first it might look like nothing is happening but as you watch it things will start to change.

Do you know that some things take time?Well it will take some time for the particles to heat up. As soon as the particles heat up they will start to move. The best thing to do is observe it for a couple of minutes. This way you will notice the difference between the two bottles and what is happening to them. One of the bottles shouldn't change because it is in the container of cold water. When this happens it is called an inertia because there was no change with the balloon.

When the bottle gets hotter and hotter it will cause the particles inside to move around. While this is happening the air will be going into the balloon because that is the only place for it to go. This will cause the balloon to blow up and become bigger and bigger. It is amazing that hot particles can make a balloon blow up.

This is a very fun task to do and it also shows that air can blow up a balloon. So now here is the answer to the question at the start. Is that when air is heated it expands and gets forced to  move up. This is why the experiment worked because the air expanded and started to rise. Have fun doing this experiment and be careful.

Madison's House

When I first arrived at Madison’s I was very happy and bouncy. I was like that for the whole weekend. From time to time I got annoyed because Cassidy and Taylah were annoying us. I hated it when we played monopoly because I always seemed to lose and Maddy always won. As it got later I got more tired. So eventually we got ready for bed.    Once we were in bed we turned on the tv and watched The Hobbit.

“Go Away” Madison shouts at Cassidy.
Cassidy refuses to leave the room and keeps on doing what she was doing.
“Hey Cassidy could you please go out of the room so me and Maddy can be alone”
As she walks away she starts to cry. Madison gets up and closes the door but she can’t because Cassidy has put her fingers in the door. Finally, Cassidy gives up and goes away. I think setting up for a game of monopoly can be quite boring. As I think to myself Maddy goes “Charlotte are you ready to play or what?”
“Sorry I was thinking.”
We start playing the game of monopoly when we hear a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
It was Leeane asking if Cassidy and Taylah  could have some fizzy.

Walking out of Madisons room we hear yelling and screaming. As we walk into the kitchen we hear Cassidy and Taylah. Madison opens up the fridge and pulls up a 1.5 liter of fanta. While she was doing that I grab the cups. Pulling the draw I hear a squeaking noise. All of a sudden Cassidy starts crying because she can’t have the cup that she wanted because Taylah was having that cup.
